Celebrate The 150th Anniversary and National Lighthouse Day at Tawas Point Lighthouse on August 7 and 8 with Fun & Free events for all!
Friday, August 7 - Noon - 5 p.m. at Lighthouse Pavilion Area - Tawas Point State Park
Visit with partner organizations including the Michigan History Center, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary of Alpena, Coast Guard - East Tawas Station, Friends of Tawas Point, United Way of Northeast Michigan Imagination Station, State Park Explorer Program, Iosco-Arenac District Library and other groups that work, educate, and recreate on the Great Lakes.
Take a Free tour of the lighthouse!
2 p.m. - Play yard games, create your own lighthouse craft, pick up a snack, and children can enjoy a special story time with the Iosco-Arenac District Library
3 p.m. - Watch our US Coast Guard – Tawas Station team in action with a helicopter flyover and live training event in Tawas Bay, as conditions allow!
Noon to 5 p.m. - Check out unique merchandise for sale - only available through non-profit Friends of Tawas Point - including note cards, matted prints, ornaments, garden flags, and more, while supplies last! (Please note: All proceeds assist with various projects at the State Park and Lighthouse – Thank you!)
Saturday, August 8 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. - Celebrate at our free Lee Murdock Concert
Through the generosity of the Michigan History Center and the Friends of Tawas Point State Park and Lighthouse, the celebration continues on Saturday, August 8, with a free Lee Murdock concert at the Lighthouse Pavilion.
Bring your picnic blankets, snacks and chairs to listen to the acclaimed Great Lakes musician and enjoy an unforgettable evening of music and storytelling. Drawing from a boundless collection of Great Lakes history, songs and legends, Murdock brings the Great Lakes’ rich heritage to life through music.
***Reminder: All vehicles entering any Michigan State Park require a valid Annual Recreation Passport, which can be purchased at the DNR Contact Station Booth when entering the State Park or through any Michigan Secretary of State Office.
